Has any consideration been given to the fact that running a RW file system that isn't designed for flash on flash memory is likely to wear it out? At the very least it is desirable to set the noatime attribute when mounting (I haven't yet tested it so I don't know if this is done). The obvious option would be to use JFFS2 but that requires a minimum of 3 erase blocks to operate and the spare partition is only 2 blocks.
I'm currently wondering if the best option isn't to create all the files that you may want to store on the device either in /tmp or on an nfs server and then build a squashfs file system to hold them.
